Rectus Capitis Posterioi Major
O: Spinous process of the axis (C2)
I: Lateral part of the inferior nuchal line of the occipital bone and area of bone just inferior to the line
Rectus Capitis Posterior Minor
O: tubercle on the posterior arch of the atlas
I: Medial part of the inferior nuchal line of the occipital bone and the area of bone between the line and foramen magnum
Obliquus Capitis inferior
O: Apex of the spinous process of the axis (C2)
I: inferior and posterior aspect of the transverse process of the atlas (C1)
Obliquus Capitis Superior
O: Superior surface of the transverse process of the atlas
I: Occipital bone between the superior and inferior nuchal lines lateral to the semispinalis capitis
Anterior Scalene (Scalenus Anterior)
O: Anterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C3 to C6 I: Scalene tubercle on the inner border of the upper surface of the first rib and the ridge on the upper surface of the rib anterior to the groove for the subclavian artery
Middle Scalene (Scalenus Medius)
O:Transverse process of the
axis (C2); Anterior aspect of the posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of
C3 to C7
I: Superior aspect of the first rib between the tubercle of the rib and the groove for the subclavian artery
Posterior Scalene (Scalenus Posterior)
O: Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C4 to C6 (or C5 to C7 – another source) I: Lateral surface of the second rib; occasionally blended with the scalenus medius

O: Lower border of ribs 1–11

O: Internal surface of the angles of the lower ribs (6-12)

Transversus Thoracis
O: Posterior surface of the body of the sternum, the posterior surface of the xiphoid process, the sternal ends of the costal cartilages of the lower 3 or 4 true ribs
I: By slips into the lower borders and inner surfaces of the costal cartilages of ribs 2-6

I: Central tendon that blends with the anterior longitudinal ligament of the vertebral column

region. 11 on each side. Lie beneath Multifidus
Rotatores Thoracis Breves -
O: Transverse process of each thoracic vertebra

respective origin.
Rotatores Thoracis Longi -
O: Transverse process of each thoracic vertebra
I: Spinous process of the vertebra two above that of
the origin
Interspinales
Short paired muscles attached to the spinous
processes of contiguous vertebrae, one on each side
of the interspinous ligament, in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions

Intertransversarii
Small muscles between the transverse processes of
