Spanish Inquisition
Set up by Ferdinand and Isabella 1478 and approved by Pope sixtus IV. Therefore it operated under Royal authority.
Three phases
1. 1478 - 1530. Dealt with converts from Judaism and Islam - conversos/Moriscos
2. 1492. Year of miracles in Spain. Inquisition expelled all Jews from Spain - many ‘converted’ to Christianity. War against the moors
3. 1558 - 1580. Inquisition dealt with Protestants. 1580+ had a secret police force

Inquisition investigated natives and conversos who emigrated there to see if they practiced Christianity.
Established in 1570 by Philip II.
Inquisition was eventually forbidden because it was so bad.

Dealt with natives. But no records as they burned in 1812. But evidence about 57 burnings between 1561 and 1774 showing it was a tame inquisition
