To enter text into a computer system
What are 3 different types of mice and how do they work?
- Wired/wireless - use sensors
- optical mouse - use LED
- Laser mouse - more sensitive
What are mice used for?
To assist with moving a cursor around a computer screen and selecting menu options and icons
What are 2 features of a microphone?
- records speech and sound when a user speaks into a mouse

What is the main use for a microphone?
entering audio, usually analogue. This is for users who have limited hand movement / difficulty speaking (google voice)
Wat are 3 features of sensors?
- A sensor collects mostly analogue input - moisture, heat, pressure
- no human intervention is required
- They are very accurate
What is the main use of sensors?
To collect analogue data so that it can be processed by a computer system
What are 2 features of a specialist keyboard and what is a virtual keyboard?
- They have keys that are specific to the application they are required for (arabic keyboard)
- they can be designed to suit the business application
A virtual keyboard is a keyboard that pops up on a screen

- in restaurants when entering keys for food items

- Remote controls are designed to suit the application
- They can be wired or wireless
- They work using radio waves or infrared
- The device they are operating needs to be in the line of sight
What are remote contros used for
gaming, operating televisions and home entertainment companies
What are two features of a scanner
- a beam of light is passed over information to be captured according to the patterns of light that make up the info
- They are available as hand-held or flat bed scanners
- The scanned info can be edited provided there is a software that can convert the patterns of light into text. This is called OCR (optical character recognition)
What are the main uses of scanners
- They are used to enter large amounts of typed info and objects into computer systems
- useful for entering info that does not need to be altered
What are 2 features of digital cameras?
- They take digital photographs that can be uploaded onto a computer system
- the photographs can be saved onto a memory card inside the camera
