What do hydrogen ions do?

A
  • lower pH of solutions and impact enzyme function and haemoglobin function
  • role in chemiosmosis

What do iron ions do?

A
  • component of haemoglobin in transport of oxygen
  • Fe2+ temporarily become Fe3+ when oxygen is bonded until released

A
  • involved in co transport of glucose and amino acids in absorption alongside sodium ions
  • role in generating action potentials
