Innate and Adaptive Immune Responses Flashcards
1
Q
Inmate immune System
A
- Natural = present at birth before exposure to pathogens
- Non-specific
- Does not recognize every antigen.
- Occurs immediately or within a few hours.
2
Q
Adaptive Immune System
A
- Acquired
- Specific
- Occurs after exposure to inducing agents (pathogens, toxins, abnormal body cells, other foreign substances
- Involves cell-mediated immune and memory responses.
- B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes are activated.
