Adv- superior material and margins, wont deteriorate over time
Disadv- time, cost
During inlay prep, what should be avoided?
Occlusal contact points
Undercuts
How large should inlay margin prep be for ceramic and gold?
1mm shoulder for ceramic
0.5mm chamfer for gold
Which systems are used to cement gold/ ceramic inlays?
Gold- Aquacem/ panavia/ RMGI
Ceramic- NX3
What is an onlay?
Extra-coronal restoration made in lab (with cumpla coverage)
What are indications for onlay placement?
Sufficient occlusal tooth substance loss
Remaining tooth substance weakened (caries/ pre-existing large restorations)
Toothwear (less destructive than crowns)
What are the steps for each inlay/ onlay appointment?
1st appt:
LA if no RCT
Make reduction template (putty index)
Impression for temporary
Tooth prep
Impressions, bite reg, shade match
Cement temp
2nd appt:
Remove temp
Isolate, clean and dry tooth
Try in and assess fit (occlusion etc)
Make adjustments/ cement in
What are the 2 main types of veneers?
Porcelain laminate veneer (PLV)
Laminate veneer (thin layer of cast ceramic bonded to labial or palatal surface of tooth with resin
What are some veneer contraindications?
Poor OH
High caries rate
Gingival recession
Extensive prep required
Heavy occlusal contacts
What are dome indications for veneer placement?
Enamel defects
Correct peg laterals
Reduce/ close proximal spaces and diastemas

Putty index for reduction template
Use depth cuts
0.3mm cervical reduction with slight chamfer margin
0.5mm midfacial reduction
1-1.5mm incisal reduction
What are alternatives to veneer placement?
Do nothing
