The sciatic nerve (located in the middle of the gluteal region)

- Drug chart
- 2nd checker
- Sharps bin
- Cotton wool
Where do you dispose of the sharps when you are finished administering your injection?
Straight away you put them into the sharps bin
What angle do you administer an IM injection?
90 degrees
When giving an IM injection, once the needle is inserted what should you do before administering the drug?
Draw back the needle, wait 5 seconds to ensure there is no blood

What signs and symptoms should you look out for if a woman was having an allergic reaction to the medication she was given?
- Rash/Red areas

- Difficulty with breathing
- Anafalactic shock
Name 3 reasons a woman may not be suitable for oral medication
- If she is vomiting
- Unable to swallow
- Nil by mouth
- If not conscious
- In an emergency an injection may be more beneficial
