Initiation 1.4 - Business Needs and Project Creation Flashcards
Organizational Needs
- relate to how businesses run.
For example, an expanding marketing company might relocate to new premises to house additional call center staff. That would be a project driven by an organizational need. As well as other types of needs, a business may address a social need.
Environmental, political, and social needs
-can create needs among members of small groups or entire populations.
For example, a particular type of disease creates a need for medical supplies to reach affected populations. A pharmaceutical company may initiate an innovative project to develop and deliver new vaccines to control the spread of the disease
Regulatory needs and demands
- new projects include legal requirements and governmental standards. Legal requirements that derive from new or existing laws can create the need for a project. New environmental protection laws may drive the need for your company to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. To comply with this legislation, it develops projects to make its refrigeration products less harmful to the environment. Federal, state, and local agencies develop governmental standards that are in line with their objectives.
When standards change, this often creates a need for changes to existing or the development of new products. So when a local agency decides to make its and its suppliers accounting and reporting standards more transparent, all the affected parties may need to adjust their reporting tools.
technological advance needs
For example, the introduction of a new scanning technology allows doctors to detect the early stages of diseases. A company that manufactures medical equipment may launch a project to create and market devices with these advanced features.
Ecological reduction or environmental needs
- For example, a pulp and paper mill may decide to install modern filters that reduce pollution. Required training can kick off a project. For instance, a luxury spa resort recognizes the need to train its staff. It initiates an internal project to design and deliver a new employee orientation program. New employees will learn about the company’s policies, products and services.
