Responsibilities of the scene guard (UNBENT)
- No Unauthorised access
- Notebook recordings of people entering the scene
- Brief authorised people
- Explore & report suspicious activity
- No contaminating the scene or exhibits

- Who - authorised and suspects
- What - happened and common approach
- Where - boundaries, entry/exit
Common approach path
Using a path for all authorised movements into and out of the scene, to keep the integrity of the scene and prevent evidence/exhibits from being destroyed/contaminated.
Responsibilities as a first responder to an incident
- Freeze - Keep the scene in its original state
- Control - All activity in the contained area
- Preserve - All exhibits at the scene that may be destroyed/decay

When is property returned or destroyed (4)
1) Decision is made not to bring proceedings
2) Item is forfeited to the crown/any person/released under district court order
3) Proceedings for an offence have not been commenced before the date that is 6 months after seizure and are return request is made
4) Proceedings are brought and dismissed/withdrawn/completed
