Inhibitor of Cell Wall Synthesis Flashcards
MOA of beta lactam
Inhibit Transpeptidase/ blocking the Alanine cross linking
What are Beta Lactamase
Produced by the bacteria, enzyme to decrease the effectiveness of the beta lactam drugs.
Penicillin
Narrow spectrum Gram +, work best with actively dividing bacteria
Taken with food
Acute Anaphylaxis(but can be desensitized)
Crosses the placenta
Semisynthetic group of Penicillin antibiotics
Similar to Penicillin, Changes to structure allow for longer half life and broader spectrum of activity
Semisynthetic Beta lactamas resistant penicillins
Methicillin
Acid labile, easily broken down by acid in the stomach
Acid stable and Penicillinase resistant drugs
Oxacillin Cloxacillin Dicloxacillin Nafcillin (im pretty sure these are cidal)
Antipseudmonal penicillins/Carbenicillin
Broad spectrum
Super infections
Cephalosporin
More stable than the Penicillin
Anaphylaxis
Bacterial Cidal
Carbapenems
Broad spectrum
Super Infection
Resistent to B-lactamases
Given with Cilastain longer 1/2 life
Monobactams
Gram negative
Resistent to Beta Lactamases
Beta-Lactamase Inhibitor
Not anti- bacteria,
Restores the full activity of the Cephlasporins or Penicillins
Vacnomycin
Gram Postive
Bacterial Cidal
Used in serious infection
Ototoxic and Nephrotoxic
Bacitracin
Gram positive
Affects the peptidoglycan synthesis
Topical or powders
Nephrotoxic
