Inheritance 3.7.1 Flashcards
What is Chi squared and when is Chi squared used ?
It is the statistic to investigate the differences between frequencies.
Used to determine whether there is a significant difference between expected and observed frequencies
What are dihybrid crosses?
When we have two genes considered at the same time in a punnet square
What causes predicted gametes in a punnet square to change?
Crossing over as it results in new combinations of alleles in the gametes
What is epistasis ?
The occurence of one gene interfering with the expression of another.
What is the epistatic gene ?
The gene that masks the effect of another gene
What is the hypostatic gene ?
The gene whose expression is masked.
What is recessive epistasis ?
This is when the epistatic gene will mask the other gene expression but only when it is in homozygous recessive form.
What is dominant epistasis ?
The presence of a dominant allele will mask the effect of the second gene, regardless of what the second gene is.
