Q

What is a chromosome?

A

A thread like structure of DNA, carrying genetic information in the form of genes. They are located in the nucleus of the cell. All cells except for gametes have 23 PAIRS of chromosomes, whereas gametes have 23 chromosomes.

16
Q

What are mutations?

A

Mutations are rare, random changes that occur in the sequence of DNA bases in a gene or a chromosome.

17
Q

What is natural selection?

A

Individuals with characteristics most suited to their environment have a higher chance of survival and more chances to reproduce. Therefore these characteristics are passed on to their offspring. Over many generations, these beneficial characteristics become more common and the species evolves.

18
Q

What is co dominance?

A

When neither allele is dominant over the other, so both alleles are expressed.
