Infrared praticle 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is this used for?
A
Measure the absorbance of infrared by different surfaces.
2
Q
Method:
A
Equipment:
- Infrared heater~ Either sides are 2 metal plates.
- 1 Plate= Painted with shiny metallic paint.
- 2nd plate= Painted with matt black paint.
Other sides of the plates:
- Vaseline is used to attach a drawing pin.
1) Start on the heater and start timing.
2) The temperature of the metal plates= increases as they abosrb infrared.
3
Q
What do we record?
A
- The time it takes for the vassaline to melt and the drawing pins to fall off.
4
Q
Results:
A
- Drawing pin falls of the matt black paint first.
- Matt black surfaces abosrn more infrared than shiny metallic substances.
Matt Black surfaces= much better at emmiting and absorbing infrared than shiny metallic substances.
Infrared tents to reflect from shiny metallic surfaces instead,
