  • nurse may ask the pt to sign the consent form & witness the signature
  • it is surgeons responsibility to provide clear & simple explanation of what surgery will entail, the benefits & possible risks, alternative s and possible complications as well as what to expect in early & late postoperative periods
  • nurse clarifies information provided and if pt requests additional information the nurse notify s the physician

what is an important thing to remember about psychoactive drug administration and informed consent?

A

-nurse makes sure that the consent form has been signed psychoactive premedication, because consent is not valid if it is obtained while client is under the influence of medications that can affect judgement and decision making
