What is the glossary?
The glossary is at the back of a book and it helps find a key term quickly from an alphabetical list.
What is the table of contents?
The table of contents help the readers quickly find major parts of the book along with the page numbers.
What is the index?
The index is at the back of the book and it helps readers quickly find pages with the info. they are looking for.
What are the key/guide words?
They are highlighted or bonded words that help the reader understand the topic and the word better. Usually are vocabulary words.
What is a diagram?
A illustration used to help readers understand the info. being taught to them. They help understand steps taken or just the info in the text.
What are graphs/charts/tables used for?
They are used to organize large amounts of info. They help readers understand the step taken too.
What are maps used for.
They help the reader understand where something happened/happened or distance between two places.
What is a timeline used for?
A timeline helps the reader see events that took place in order.
What is an illustration?
An illustration is used to help readers understand something in a visual way.
What is bold print/italics used for?
It is used to signal that the word is important or that you can find it in the glossary.
What are titles/headings used for?
Helps readers identify the topic, understand the main idea, divide the text into sections, and helps the reader make connections.
What area subheadings used for?
Helps readers navigate through the text, locate info, and helps understand the main idea.
What are captions?
Captions helps the reader understand what happens in the picture.
What are sidebars used for?
Sidebars are used to help readers get more info on the topic. They are usually located on the side of a page or below the text.
