What is a diagram?
A picture or drawing with labelled parts.
What is a table of contents?
located in the front, tells the reader what chapters and topics will be in the book and the pg numbers you can find it
What is the glossary?
tells reader the definition of important words in a text
What is a sidebar?
Shows facts and provides information not found in the text
What is an index?
Should be called the “endex” b/c it’s at the end and is a list of important words or topics that were covered in the text. It also gives you the page # so that you can look something up quickly.
What is a photograph?
a real picture
What is a caption?
words that better help you understand a picture or photo
What is an illustration?
A drawn picture
What is a label?
a word that points to a important piece of a photograph, map, or diagram
What are headings and subheadings?
Breaks the article or book into parts, usually bold, and gives a hint to what the paragraphs below will be about
What is a map?
A picture that shows locations or places
What is a graph or chart?
A visual picture of information that helps you better understand something in the book.
What is bold print?
a bolded or darkened word that’s important, the definition often is found in the glossary
