Define: Information Technology (IT)
Information technology (IT) is the electronic means of storing, transmitting and processing data.
State three ways in which IT might benefit operations management.
- Critical path analysis
- Stock control
- Computer-aided design/manufacturing

• To store and analysis data (e.g. to identify customer buying patterns)

IT will not always be welcomed by staff. Some may fear a loss of status because they do not know how to use it or because if deskilling.

The value of IT depends on how it is used. It will not automatically solve problems, as it is merely a tool. It depends who uses it and how they use it.
