What does collecting involve?
Collection - to collect the information from a range of sources through a number of ways including questionnaires, interviews etc.
What does storage involve?
Storage - Storage involves storing the information in a database for example tables in order to save the information. Different tables have relationships which link all of the data together.
What does retrieving involve?
Retrieving - Being able to call up the relevant information when it is needed e.g. through the use of queries
What does manipulating and processing involve?
Manipulating and processing involves organising the information making it easier to understand e.g. through putting the information into graphs and charts
What does analysis involve?
Analysing involves reviewing and interpreting the information in order to identify any trends and patterns, which can help businesses be more efficient
What does security involve?
Security involves protecting information that is being held. Methods of security include permissions, usernames and passwords etc.
What does transmitting (communicating) involve?
Transmitting involves the way that businesses communicate the information to the relevant people e.g. through e-mails or posting letters
Why is collection important?
Means that all of the data can be kept in one place, and that the information is collected from a reliable and accurate source
Why is storage important?
To ensure that the information isn’t lost, and is backed up in case of an emergency
Why is retrieving important?
Means that the relevant information can be accessed when it is needed, and as quickly as possible
Why is manipulating and processing important?
Means that the information is organised, and as a result easier to understand
Why is analysis important?
Allows the business to identify trends which can further improve the businesses efficiency
Why is security important?
It means that the information is protected, which ensures that the business is complying with data protection laws, and gives the business a better public image
Why is transmitting (communicating) important?
It keeps customers up to date and builds a strong relationship between the business and it’s customers
