What is personal information (with examples)?
Private information about an individual person
Examples: address, age, phone number
What is business information (with examples)?
Information about businesses
Examples: annual sales figures, profit figures
What is sensitive (personal) information (with examples)?
Information that shouldn’t generally be available about individual people
Examples: bio-metrics, medical information
What is sensitive (business) information (with examples)?
Information about businesses that should be protected from unauthorised access
Examples: trade secrets, financial data
What is non-sensitive information (with examples)?
Information that is a matter of public record or knowledge, and information held by organisations or the government may be requested a member of the public
Examples: Census records
What is private information (with examples)?
Information about individuals or organisations that must be protected in order to comply with the data protection act
Examples: nationality, gender, marital status
What is confidential information?
Private data that should be kept private, of a higher level of restriction than sensitive information
What is public information?
Information about the government and other publicly owned organisations that can be disclosed and shared with other organisations and businesses
What is classified information (with examples)?
Public information that should be kept private, usually to protect security, but once situation has passed or been dealt with, can be made public
Examples: NHS, schools, police force
What is partially and completely anonymised information?
Completely anonymised information is fully made anonymous if the information could link the record to the source, the person or the organisation it is about
Partially anonymised information is where some of the information is removed or made anonymous
