  • places like Chile and Argentina, 10% of british exports went to Latin America in late 19th century, British public capital in these places were £80mill
  • financiers like Charles Morrison acquired banks in Argentina in 1881, and invested in the country’s utilities, brits lived an elite lifestyle in Buenos Ares, with their institutions and way of life
