Influence Inflammation on Aesthetics Flashcards
What are 3 components of oral aesthetics?
Teeth, gingiva and lip line
When may gingival aesthetics not matter as much?
If pt has low lip line
What makes up the aesthetics of the gingiva?
Colour, form/shape, position, symmetry, relationship to upper lip
What is the aesthetic gingival form?
Knife edge margin
Smooth transition gingiva- teeth
Fill embrasures
Light stippling
Relationship of canine/ central vs lateral
Expect +1.5mm higher than lateral
What can cause influence of aesthetics?
- Inflammation - erythema/ swelling/ loss contour
- Recession - localised or generalised
- Tooth movement
When is gingival veneer used?
When have large amounts recession or when generalised tissue loss anterior area
Indication/ contraindication gingival veneer?
- High levels of maintenance
2. High caries risk
Give examples when periodontal plastic surgery can be used?
High frenum
Gingival recession
Delayed gingival maturation
Unaesthetic gingival margins
What types of procedures can be done?
Frenectomy
Gingival grafting
Crown lengthening
Grafting
What is included in preoperative assessment?
Initial non-surgical management
Radiograph and clinical examination
Pt factors
Consent
How manage +/- gingival height?
Often due to delayed gingival maturation/ drug induced enlargement
Gingivectomy
Excisions flap +/- osseous surgery
What is crown lengthening?
Aesthetic surgery
Removal excess gingiva - leaving enough biological with
Lift flap and recount our bone
Tx of vertical and horizontal asymmetry
