inflammatory response Flashcards
Cardinal signs :
car dinal
car dinal
swelling
Redness
Pain
Heat
Possibly
meansing
occurs when tissues are injured by bacteria, trauma, toxins, heat, or any other cause.
The damaged cells release chemicals including histamine, bradykinin, and prostaglandins
. These chemicals cause blood vessels to leak fluid into the tissues, causing swelling
Inflammation should:
a. contain a site of damage
b. localize responses
c. eliminate invader
d. Restore tissue function
The Inflammatory Process :
-Chemicals dilate small blood vessels
then permeability increases
-Leukocytes migrate through dilated walls =
swelling
-redness
-heat
increase blood flow to affected area :
a. Redness
b. heat
Pain caused by:
a. increased of fluid
b. effect of chemicals on sensory nerve ending
Pus
dead cells & tissue debris
Types :
- Acute inflammation
a. short-term
b. abundance of neutrophil
c. macrophages clean up debris - Chronic inflammation
a. defenses cannot limit infection
b. long-term that can last years
c. accumulation of macrophages & giant cells
d. granulomas form
e. contain persistent organisms & Ags
fever :
Strong indication of infectious disease, especially bacterial
activating and speeding up body defenses
Pyrogens
py ro gn
py ro gen
a substance that produces a rise in temperature in a human or animal
Prolonged inflammation will cause :
Tissue damage
swelling :
Plasma leaks into tissues
Diapedesis
Leukocytes migrate through dilated walls
granulomas
1) collection of lymphocytes & macrophages
(2) body’s attempt to wall off & contain persistent organisms & Ags
