Inflammation Flashcards
What are the key components of inflammation?
circulatory changes, vascular changes, humoral response and cellular response.
circulatory changes
involves blood flow through the inflamed tissue
vascular changes
involving the physical, biochemical & biological changes in the endothelial lining, vessel wall, and perivascular tissue of small vessels such as arterioles, capillaries & venules
humoral response
release and action of soluble mediators produced by inflammatory cells and various organs in response to injury
cellular response
primarily circulating platelets and white blood cells
hyperaemia
influx of blood into the inflamed area
signs of inflammation
redness, heat, swelling and pain
sphincter
something that stops blood from flowing back into the arteries
Rouleaux of red blood cells
stacking of red blood cells in the centre of the blood stream - this happens because they are moving slower
