Inferential Statistics Flashcards
What is the most common significance level used?
P 0.05
What are type 1 and type 2 errors?
Type 1 - if the significance level is too high - too lenient e.g. P 0.10
Type 2 - if the significance level is too low - too strict e.g. P 0.001
What is nominal, ordinal and interval data?
Nominal - data that you can pit into specific categories.
Ordinal - data that can be ordered/ranked.
Interval - data that occurs in intervals and can be timed.
What are the 4 types of inferential tests?
- Mann Whitney
- Spearmans Rank/Rho
- Chi-squared
- Wilcoxon
When is Spearmans Rank/Rho used?
Correlation and ordinal or interval.
When is Chi-squared used?
Independent groups/matched pairs and nominal.
When is Mann-Whitney used?
Independant groups/matched pairs and ordinal or interval.
When is Wilcoxon used?
Repeated measures and ordinal or interval.
In what 2 tests does the critical value have to be greater than that in the table for the result to be significant?
- Spearmans
2. Chi-squared
In what 2 tests does the critical value have to be lower than that in the table for the result to be significant?
- Wilcoxon
2. Mann Whitney
