infectious diseases Flashcards
pathogen types
protozoa, bacteria, fungus, viruses, parasites
viruses cause
hiv/aids, cold and flu + measels
protozoa causes
malaria
bacteria caues
germs
fungi causes
mold mushrooms, yeast, thrush, athletes foot
parasites are
ticks, head lice, mites and tapeworms
what is a virus
small particles that infect cells and change how they function, they inject their DNA into the cell until they reproduce enough to burst the cell open and infect others(protein coat of genetic material)They can enter us through mouth nose or skin,
what is a protozoa
a large singe celled organism that spreads and infects by cysts, it has a cell membrane, nucleolus, cytoplasm and vacculoe
what is a bacteria
microscopic living organisms that are unicellular and spread germs their is two types of bacteria good and bad can enter through mouth nose skin and bites
fungi
usually spread from skin to skin contact ie athletes foot
parasites
feed on the hosts blood can be inside or outside the body, parasites can spread and causes disease if the cause it it is called a vector
some dieases may be cause by (4)
fungi, viruses, bacteria, parasites
disease causing orgnaisms are calles
pathogens
what are the 3 shapes of bacteria?
rods spheres and spirals
what conditions do bacteria like to grow in?
warm and moist
what are antibiotics used for?
treat infections caused by bacteria
which pathogen type is the smallest?
viruses
