Flu management
Rest, fluids, antipyretics (paracetamol)
Often self limiting
Monitor immunosuppressed patients to avoid pneumonia
Tonsilitis symptoms
Sore throat Headache Dysphagia Enlarged cervical glands Tonsils are enlarged, white patches
Tonsilitis bacterial vs viral
B - fever, englarged glands, patchy tonsils
V - runny nose, conjunctivitis, cough, no fever
Malaria symptoms
High fever (comes and goes)
Chills
Vomiting
Headache
Malignant malaria
Cerebral malaria, general anemia, multi-organ failure
Malaria management
Drugs
DEET
Cover extremities
Confirm with blood microscopy
TB symptoms
Nightly seats Low-grade fever Dyspnea Blood stained sputum Cough
TB diagnosis
CXR, TB test, sputum test
TB treatment
2 months of 4 drugs, then 4 months of 2 drugs
Genital herpes symptoms
Blisters on penis, vagina, or anus
Erode to form painful ulcers
Genital herpes diagnosis
PCR test of HSV vesicles
Genital herpes treatment
Antivirals 5x/day for 10 days
If relapsed, prohylaxis
