What are the steps of infection control (in order)?
- Cleaning: mechanical process, cleaning visible debris.
- Sanitizing: chemical process furthering decontaminating visibly clean item.
- Disinfecting: kills off everything except spores.
- Sterilizing: no germs whatsoever, highest level of cleanliness that can only be achieved using an autoclave.
DPOR
Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Virginia’s state agency in charge of rules and regulations.
EPA
Environmental Protection Agency. Regulates the manufacturing, processing, and distribution & use of chemicals and other pollutants.
OSHA
Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Created by Congress to ensure safe working conditions by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.
PPE
Personal protective equipment used to ensure safety in the workplace.
SDS
Safety data sheet required by OSHA that includes list of used chemical products and when last used.
Virus
There are no good viruses.
Good ways to allow the virus to cause really bad hard is
-prevention: exposure (getting sick)
-incubation: vaccination
-containment: quarantine
Barbicide
Should have a ration of 2:16 or 1:8 where item needs to be fully immersed for a minimum of 10 minutes to be completely disinfected.

Bacteria
Single cell organisms with plant and animal-like characteristics. Has some pathogenic and some non pathogenic organisms. Bacterial infection includes inflammation, pus, body part (local infection), entire body (systemic infection).
Fungi
Can be single celled or very complex multicellular organisms.
-Mildew, molds, yeasts.
Parasites
An organism that lives or are in an organism. It needs a host to survive.
Head lice: pediculosis capitis
Scabies
Biofilms
A thin, film of bacteria that adheres to a surface
-Can be found on teeth or old toilets/ bathtubs
Bleach
5.25% Sodium hypoclorite (NaClO)
Mix of 1:10 solution ratio
-mix is only good for 24 hours
-bleach has to be poured into solution, not vice versa
