Early interventions for suspected sepsis
- Aggressive fluids within first 3 hours - watch for MAP 60-70 and urine output >0.5 mL/kg/hr
- Broad-spectrum antibiotics within 1 hour
Cat bite treatment
Always antibiotic prophylaxis - Amoxicillin-clavulanate:
1. Skin flora
2. Pasteurella (gram-negative)
3. Anaerobes
Copious irrigation
Wound left open to heal by secondary intention (decrease risk of infection)
Septic shock order of treatments
Fluid resuscitation -> vasopressors -> iv hydrocortisone
Snakebite antivenom Crotalidae polyvalent immune Fab - adverse effects
Significant allergic reaction
Recurrent coagulopathy
Airborne precautions are needed for which infections?
TB
Varicella - only when uncrusted lesions present; also contact precautions
Herpes zoster - only in disseminated disease or immunocompromised clients; also contact precautions
Rubeola (measles)
