What is stress hyperglycemia?
A
Transient elevation in blood glucose by metabolic stress in patients without preexisting diabetes
Due to cortisol, catecholamines (epinephrine, norepinephrine) acting on liver –> glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis
Only very high elevations (>180-200) should be corrected with short-acting insulin
