disadvantages white boys are 5 times less likely to go to uni than those from affluent background (office for fair access) -
students eligible for free school meals are significantly less likely to achieve 5 a*-c (38.1% achieving) compared to those not eligible for free school meals (64.8%) - department for education)

what are the barriers to learning ?

A

1) if families can’t afford uniforms , money for trips and transport , classroom materials this can lead t children feeling isolated being bullied , lead to them falling behind and not wanting to attend
2) at home they may not be well supported e.g. computer , books, a desk
3) the marketization of schools means that there will be better resourced , over- subscribed schools in affluent areas while socially disadvantaged children are concentrated in a limited number of unpopular schools

A
Diana reay- because of lack of finances , w/c students are more likely to go to local uni to avoid transport nd living costs, stops them from going to best uni 
also w/c students may need to work part time along studies , so gives them less time to revise compared to middle class counter parts
