Industry Related Manufacturing Flashcards
Study cards for the Industry Related Manufacturing section of the course
What is the system unit?
The system unit is the enclosure for all the main interior components of the computer
What is the motherboard?
The Motherboard is the main circuit board which holds and connects all of the other components together
What is the CPU?
CPU is the central processing unit it proccesses all the data and turns it into info and it is refereed to as the brains of the computer
What makes up the CPU?
There 2 components are the Control Unit which directs and coordinates the flow of data in the computer and The Arithmetic Unit Which carries out all the mathematical and logical calculations occurring.
What is RAM ?

for files you are currently working before they go to a device like a Hard Disk Drive
What does HDD stand for?
Hard Disk Drives
What is a Graphics Card?
A graphics card (also called a video card) is commonly a port that is physically integrated onto the Motherboards of todays computers that allows data to be sent to a display device such as a monitor or projector to show what you are doing on a computer.
What is a Power supply?
The power supply is a small box inside the system unit with a variety
of connectors to plug into different components.
Name the differnt types of Monitors
CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
LED (Light Emitting Diode)
Plasma
Touch Screens
There are five functions used with computers. What are they?
Input, Processing, Storage, Control, Output
What is the d ifference between RAM and ROM storage?
RAM (Random Access Memory) is volatile and is a type of hardware device that temporarily stores data that can be retrieved quickly from your computer. If the computer is turned off, the data is lost.
ROM (Read-Only Memory) is a non-volatile type of memory that allows information to be stored permanently. It is saved even if the computer is turned off.
