What are some positive effects of industrialization?
- Improved transportation and communication systems helped the country stay connected.
- The price of goods was reduced due to mass production.
- Job opportunities in urban centers became available.
- New forms of entertainment developed in cities (e.g., museums and visiting circuses).
What are some negative effects of industrialization?
- As cities grew and became more densely populated, fires, pollution, and the spread of diseases became a constant threat.
- Factory workers, including women and children, were exploited (taken advantage of) by factory owners through low wages and long hours.
- Workers experienced bad effects due to the unsanitary working conditions.
What did the Transcontinental Railroad do?
Helped westward migration by providing a way to transport goods and people more quickly.

Connected communities and allowed for instantaneous communication.
