  • agriculture doubled in produce because of selective breeding for sheep; four-course rotation of crops; new methods written about; modern ‘patchwork’ of enclosed fields created
  • increased machinery so fewer farm workers

What were some transport changes in Britain?

A
  • great improvement for roads, trains, canals
  • Turnpike trusts set up: charge a toll for using road and maintain road
  • roads much better than mud roads before where carriages would get stuck
  • quicker to transport goods
  • canals popular in 1790s - £20m invested - good for transporting bulky goods
  • first railway built in 1825 - very popular - £2bn invested
  • less unemployment - work at railways
  • fruit became more common because could be transported before rotten

  • factories for cotton and other goods set up
  • Richard Arkwright set up first factories, powered by mills
  • coal mines with steam power built - very dangerous
