Induction System Flashcards

1
Q

Why is air important?

A

Air acts as an oxidizer. It combines fuel with oxygen. This is necessary in order to create a combustible gas.

Q

Purpose of the induction system

A

To provide a system for air, from the atmosphere, to enter the engine and in the process, become mixed with fuel at the proper ratio.

Q

Induction system of reciprocating engine

A

Has an air scoop used to collect the inlet air and ducting that transfers the air to the inlet filter. The air filter is generally housed in the carburetor heat box or other housing and is attached to the carburetor or fuel injection controller. After air
Asses through the fuel metering device, an intake manifold with long curved pipes or passages is used to send the fuel/air mixture to the cylinders.

Q

Fuel metering

A

To meter fuel proportionally to air to establish the proper fuel/air mixture ration for the engine at all speeds and altitudes at which the engine maybe operated.
