Float Type Carburetor Flashcards
What is a carburetor
It blends air and fuel for an internal combustion engine.
Float carburetors
Use a float chamber with fuel readily available for use and is supplied by the fuel pump.
Float chamber
Automatically regulates the supply of liquid to a system.
Float type carburetor operation
Depends on pressure differential between the fuel in the float chamber and the discharge nozzle in the Venturi.
Venturi effect
Creates the pressure differential by utilizing a convergent duct which increases velocity in the air tunnel as well as decreasing its pressure. As a result, fuel is drawn in the airstream due to equilibrium.
Carburetor induction system
As the piston moves from TDC to BDC a negative pressure is created (vacuum) . Air comes from the atmosphere through the air filter housing then passes through the air filter. Afterwards if flows into the carburetor where the fuel is mixed with it. Then it passes through the intake manifold and I’d drawn into cylinders.
Carburetor induction system
When using carburetor type induction system there isn’t a means to accurately measure the incoming air for the proper fuel mixture.
