Indoor Environmental Quality Credits Flashcards
EQ Prerequisite - Minimum Indoor Air Quality Performance
Project must meet the requirements of monitoring and ventilation for both mechanical and natural
Ventilation
Mechanically ventilated
-Option 1 - ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2010
-Option 2 - CEN standards EN 15251-2007 and EN 13779-2007
Naturally Ventilated
CIBSE AM10 to confirm it is an effective strategy
ASHRAE 62.1 natural ventilaton sections
All Spaces
the IAQ procedure defined in ASHRAE 62.1 must not be used to comply with EQ-P minimum indoor air quality performance
Monitoring
Mechanically ventilated
VAV must have direct outdoor air intake monitoring with a +/- 10% accuracy. Alarm installed if the airflow varies by more than 15%
Constant volume system must have a current transducer and balance outdoor air flow to minimum standard of ASHRAE 62.1
naturally ventilated
must do one of the following
direct exhaust airflow measurement device with +/- 10% accuracy. Alarm if airflow varies by 15%
alarmed openings for each naturally ventilated openings that alarms if closed during occupnacy hours.
CO2 monitors in breathing zone 3-6’. A visual or auditory alarm if more than 10% off setpoint
EQ-P - Minimum Indoor Air Quality Performance (special cases)
Residential Projects
each unit must meet all of the following
*unvented combustion appliances are not allowed
*CO2 monitors on each floor of unit
*indoor fireplaces and wood stoves must have solid glass enclosures or sealing doors
*indoor fireplaces and woodstoves that arent closed combustion or power vented must pass a backdraft potential test to show less than 5 Pa depressurization of the combustion
*Projects in high risk radon areas must implement radon resistant construction for all dwelling units on levels 1-4 above grade
Core and Shell
must meet the ventilation and monitoring needs of anticipated future tenants
Healthcare
ASHRAE 170-2008 section 7
2010 FGI Guidelines
Datacenters
all occupied spaces must meet ventilation requirements
Warehouses and Distribution centers
both warehouse and distibution centers are occupied spaces that must meet ventilation requirements
EQ-P Environmental Tobacco Smoke Control
smoking prohibit in building and outside within 25’ of entries, air intakes, operable windows
Smoking outside designated areas should be prohibited in any space used by business for business purposes
No smoking signs must be posted with 10’ of building
Schools
prohibited on site signage posted at property lines adjacent to entrances
residential
compartmentalization of smoke areas allowed. Confirmed with a blower door test RESNET, Energy Star multifamily testing, ASTM E779-03 or ASTM E1827-11
Maximum leakage of .23 cfm/ft2
Healthcare
compartmenalization is allowed in clinics that permit patients to smoke
EQ-P - Minimum Acoustic Performance (Schools Only)
HVAC Background Noise
In core learning spaces not to exceed 40 dBa. ANSI S12.60-2010
Exterior Noise
Must be address in high noise sites (60 dBa).
Projects located within 1/2 mile of significant sound source are exempt
Reverberation time
Classrooms and learning spaces with volumes 20,000 ft3 or greater must meet RTdescribed in NRC-CNRC Construction Technology Update no. 51, or local equivalent
if less than 20,000ft3
Option 1 - the surface area of absorptive materials must exceed to SA of the total ceiling (excluding lights, diffusers, etc). Must have NRC of .7 or higher.
-Option 2 - Designed to meet ANSI S12.60-2010
EQ-C - Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies
-Option 1 - Enhanced IAQ Strategies 1pt
Mechanically Ventilated
*Entryways - 10 mat to catch debris
*Interior Cross contamination - exhaust rates from P or .5 Cfm per SF, negative pressure, self closing doors, floor to deck partitions or hard lid
*filtration - MERV 13, Class F7 by CEN EN 779-2002 - replace after construction before occupancy
Naturally Ventilated
*entryways
*natural ventilation calculations - CIBSE AM10
Mixed mode
*Entryways
*interior cross contamination prevention
*filtration
*natural ventilation calculations

Mechanically Ventilated
*Exterior Contamination Prevention - computational fluid dynamic analysis - National Ambient Air Quality Standards
*Increase Ventilation - 30% above min from prereq
*Co2 Monitoring - in breathing zone of all densely occupied spaces, visual or auditory displays if 10% off set point, ASHRAE62.1
