Individualised Treatment Planning Flashcards
Explain as a clinician, what you should consider and complete prior to seating your patient
Prior to seating the patient, three things should occur:
- Review patient file or record
- Get your patient and conduct TOP
- Create a treatment plan with a focus on short term and long term goals to halt disease progression and maintain health. Set measurable outcomes e.g. lower API and SBI scores
Identify the phases of care and briefly describe each one
Systemic:
Medical history. Important as a precaution, informs about allergies and how treatment might need to be modified and increases awareness towards potential emergencies.
Control:
Addressing chief complaint to relieve pain, stabilise infection/ disease or identifying when a referral needs to be made.
Conservation:

Post- conservation:
- 6 week review: assess response to care and review OHI/ smoking status
- 3 month review: conduct perio chart to see if second course of care is needed
Correction: refer to restore function, stability and aesthetics
Maintenance:
Review with perio chart and exploration. Re-instrument bleeding sites and polish/ fluoride as required.
