What defines Individual Psychology?
Unique beliefs and skills that people develop from early childhood serve as a reference for their attitudes, behaviors, and private view of self, others, and society.
According to Adlerian Theory, what are mental health problems, and can people recover?
An extension or exaggeration of typical, normal developmental processes, and people have the resources they need to reach their potential
What are two fundamental views of Adlerian Theory?
People have a basic human need to be accepted by others and to contribute positively to society & people constantly strive to become better versions of themselves
How does Individual Psychology work?
Positive traits, characteristics, and inherent drives of every individual are identified and enhanced to effectively overcome any undesirable drives or motivations.
In addition to biological, psychological, and genetic factors, what influences human behavior and change?
Environmental and social influences
What does Adler believe are primary drives for humans?
the drive to gain power, achieve superiority, and become a fully functioning adult.
the drive toward social interest was even stronger than the drive for superiority and power.
driven primarily by needs for significance, self-worth, and social involvement.
What is the goal of Adlerian therapy?
Help people feel empowered and self-actualized and build rewarding social involvement and relationships.

Focused on a person’s inner reality
What is superiority?
The drive that allows individuals to become skilled, competent, and creative
What is inferiority?
The feeling of inadequacy and incompetency that develops during infancy and serves as the basis to strive for superiority to overcome feelings of inferiority
What is a felt minus?
The struggle of not feeling valued and/or feeling incompetent, inadequate, or generally less acceptable than others.
What is a perceived plus?
The subjective perception that they have achieved an area of mastery above peers
What is the fictional final goal?
A mental schema of the perfect self
What are the four ingredients of lifestyle?
Worldview, goals, behavioral strategies, outcomes of those behaviors
