Conflicting evidence
Gender+cultural bias
The role of hostility
Whats is supporting evidence for Type A and B personality type? (Ev)
Research gave an unsolvable puzzle in a noisy environment and offered a reward if they completed it, . Type A personalities were more outwardly more stressed and higher levels of adrenaline during the competition - suggesting they’re more vunerable to stress
What is conflicting evidence for Type A and B personalities? (Ev)
Research followed up 257 of the Western Collaborative Group Study, after 22 years, although smoking and cholesterol levels were predictors of CHD morality, Type A personalities were not linked to death
What is the gender and cultural bias for personality? (evaluation for type A and B personalities)
The og study was conducted on only male ppts, meaning that personality type traits were built off of male centered traits, research also highlighted that personality type is based off of western views, so may not be generalisable
What is the evaulation point for role of hostility? (Ev of personality A and B)
Ceartin traits associated with type A personalities may be more important than others. For ex - research has found that out of the Western Colabrative Group Study, those with the higher levels of hostility were linked to higher rates of CHD, may help them develop constructively
What personality traits is a type A personality likely to display? (Description)
Compettiveness
Impulsive
Workaholic
Hostility
What personality traits is a type B personality likely to display? (Description)
Relaxed
Ability to express feelings

Slower movements
What is the link between Type A personalities and stress-related illnesses?
It has been suggested that those with a Type A personality are more likely to trigger the fight or flight response, so have an increased risk of CHD, due to wear and tear
What was The Western Collaborative Group Study?
A prospective longitudinal study which involved 3,154 men aged 39-59 at the start of 1960-61
Explain why The Western Collaborative Group was significant and what were the findings
The 3154 men were categorised into a Type A or B personality using an interview, they found that after 8 and a half years, 257 had developed heart disease and 70% of them were a type A personality, Type A also had higher blood pressure and cholesterol
What other research supports the link between type A personalities and stress?
Research reported that Type A personalties were associated with a 2 fold increase in CHD risk over 10 years
