Q

Is confidence a positive attribute in ATC?

A

Yes. Being confident is a positive approach in ATC as one is able to develop proactive plans and see issues as challenges to overcome rather than hurdles to leap.

However, overconfidence gives a feeling of invincibility and may tempt a controller to take chances that would not normally be considered.

Q

Is overconfidence dangerous for ATC?

A

Yes. Overconfidence gives a feeling of invincibility and may tempt a controller to take chances that would not normally be considered.

Overconfidence can therefore lead to complacency whereby the controller feels that they can overcome ANY obstacle in their path and the job is too easy.
