What are indirect objects?
Indirect objects tell “to whom” or “for whom” something is done.
For example,
- Marla compraba chocolates para Pancho.*
- Marla used to buy chocolates for Pancho.*

How do you find the indirect object phrase?
To find the indirect object phrase in a sentence, ask “to whom?,” “for whom?” the action of the verb is performed.
For example,
Pancho compra chocolates para María.
“for whom Pancho buys chocolates?
for María.
The indirect object for María is le.

Where do you place the IOP in a sentence?
It depends on two things:
If the sentence has only one verb, place the pronoun before the verb.
Lupita les compra chocolates a los niños.
If the sentence has two verbs, put the pronoun either before the verbs or attached to the infinitive of the second verb.
Lupita les quiere comprar chocolates a los niños.
Lupita quiere comprarles chocolates a los niños.
What verbs use only indirect object pronouns?
Special verbs like:
gustar, encantar
molestar, importar
aburrir, interesar
use indirect object pronouns instead of subject pronouns; for example,
Me gusta la clase de arte.
A Pancho le gusta la clase de español.
