what were the three main indigenous groups in Canada
the first nations: lived in southern Canada
the Metis: a mix of french and indigenous people
Inuit: lived in northern Canada

independence from the influence or integration of another nation
what did the treaties do for the first nations?
nothing it gave them starvation but it did provide protection and farming even though they don’t know the ways of European farming they signed them without knowing

if an Indigenous woman marries a European man she would lose status
ceremonies would be banned
children had to go to residential schools
they were not allowed to vote
they were not allowed to wear any traditional, clothing

the white paper was made by peirre trudea was made to abloish treaties rights he wanted a “just society” this was not resievd well because that would mean it would take away a big part of indigenous history

the red paper was made to combat the white paper it was a bunch of things that the indigenous community wanted like status
who was Louis riel and what did he do
he fought for metis rights for the land you know basic human things
what was going down with the Inuit
they wanted to be known as there own land and as there own people with there own level of government they also never signed a treatie

it was to restore justice between aboriginal peoples
self-determination between aboriginal peoples
there determined to keep fighting and going
