Indices Flashcards
The accuracy of an Examination is affected by 2 factors
Reproducibility
Validity
Reproducibility
The ability to produce the same result every time the test was repeated in the same patient
Validity
The ability of a test to discriminate between people with and without disease
Sensitivity
The probability that a test result will be positive when the test is administered to people who actually have the disease in question
Specificity
The probability that at est will be negative when administered to people who are free of the disease in question
Predicative Value Positive
The probability of disease in a subject with a positive test result
Predictive Value Negative
The probability of not having the disease when the test is negative
Halo Effect
The examiners general impression of target distorts his/her perception of the target on specific dimensions
Leniency/Severity Error
The examiners tendency to be lenient or severe
Central Tendency Error
The examiners reluctance to rate at either the positive or negative extreme so all scores cluster in the middle
Parameters Commonly Used in Clinical Periodontology
Plaque Accumulation Calculus Formation Gingival Inflammation Periodontal Destruction Periodontal Treatment Needs
Silness and Loe Plaque Index
Association of plaque and pregnancy gingivitis
Measures abundance of plaque
No disclosing
Index teeth
Index Teeth
Teeth 3, 9, 12, 19, 25, 28
Advantages: Representative fo changes in entire mouth
Less time
Plaque Index scoring
0-none
1-plaque detected by running probe along margins
2-visible
3-abundant
NIDR Calculus Index
0-absent
1-Supragingival calculus but no subgingival calculus is present
2-Supragingival and subgingival or sublingual calcusl only is present
