  • only recommended for short-term use (cause dependence)
  • may be used while waiting for effect of SSRI

Buspirone

A
  • only anxiolytic activity (no sedative-hypnotic, anticonvulsant or muscle relaxant effects)
  • least effective in the treatment of anxiety
    -most effective after 1-4 weeks of treatment

MOA: partial agonist at 5-HT1A receptors

AEs:
Dizziness
Non-specific chest pain
