Q

What are indications for static contact?

A

– Conditions of overstimulation (conditions of overstimulation. Example: Muscular tension, Anxiety, Excitability, insomnia) where overall relaxation/sedation is desired
–trauma, Illness, dying, emotional distress, Post traumatic stress disorder (Especially following violence or sexual abuse)
–painful conditions in which pressure and/or soft tissue manipulation is painful or contraindicated
– Extreme pain, intractable pain
–where this effect is desired and other techniques are contraindicated
–Post surgery, convalescence, poor physical self-image

Q

What are indications for soothing stroking?

A

– When an overall sedation effect as desired. Example: anxiety, Tension, insomnia
– Acute pain
– Muscle spasm
– Irritable bowel syndrome
– Maybe permissible after acute myocardial infarction
– Conditions were direct mechanical pressure is contraindicated

Q

What are contraindications for soothing stroking?

A

– Ticklishness or irritation caused by the application of technique
– Acute pain syndromes. Example: reflex sympathetic dystrophy
– Maybe contraindicated locally in areas of acute inflammation because of pain

Q

What are indications for effleurage?

A

–conditions of overstimulation(e.g. muscular tension, anxiety, excitability, insomnia) where overall relaxation/sedation is desired
– Pain
–to reduce swelling (By increasing lymph return) and increase circulation in conditions in which circulation is temporarily compromised (e.g. in case of musculoskeletal injuries such as: spring, strain, bursitis, contusions, dislocations, separations and fractures)

Q

What are contraindications for effleurage?

A

– Pain(Use caution)
– Conditions in which venous returns compromised(e.g. varicose veins, severe edema, over areas of possible infection)
–conditions in which increased circulation would not be desirable(e.g. shortly after her surgery, congested heart failure)
–conditions in which organic function is compromised(e.g. Serious kidney pathology Serious nutritional deficiency)

Q

What are indications of petrissage?

A
–to increase perception relaxation
–to reduce perception of anxiety
–pain
– Local edema
–most conditions of muscles, especially increased resting muscle tension hypotonicity
–to improve reduced joint range of motion
–adhesions, contracture, fibrosis
– Constipation
17
Q

What are contraindications to petrissage?

A

–most acute conditions
– Moderate to severe variscosities
–severely atrophy muscles (gentle petrissage only)
–hypotrophied muscles(Gentle petrissage only)
–spastic paralysis(slow, gentle petrissage only)

18
Q

What are indications to tapotement?

A

– Stimulation of local circulation(May cause local hyperemia)
– Promotion of local metabolism
– hypotrophied muscles (light techniques only) to facilitate contraction and increased neuromuscular tone
-maybe suitable for pain relief in cases of neuralgia or amputation(Phantom limb pain)
– visceral hypo function (remotes reflex response in viscera)
–loosens mucus
–increases metabolism and gaseous exchange
–promotes expectoration and coughing

19
Q

What are contraindications to tapotement?

A

To all tapotement:
– Spastic paralysis
– Neuritis, neuralgia
–most painful conditions

To heavy tapotement:
–over kidneys
–on abdomen
–over low back
– Sacrum during pregnancy
–hypotrophied, atrophied muscle
–insomnia, and nervous excitability, convalescence, neurashtenia (unexplained chronic fatigue, lack of motivation)
–over bony prominences, local area where bone is subcutaneous
–many heart conditions
–severe osteoporosis
– Arthritis
– High blood pressure, and other cardiovascular conditions
–degenerative disc disease

–where airway clearance is needed(e.g. chronic respiratory conditions such as cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, dyspnea)
