Indexing Flashcards
What does the JIRA index control?
The JIRA application index controls searching and the activity stream. JIRA applications will perform partial re-indexes after every issue change.
What should you do if indexing fails?
- Restart the JIRA application
- Do a full re-index, by choosing the option to ‘Lock and Re-Index”.
- Go into Safe Mode and retest
What should you do if corruption happens while re-indexing?
“Delete the index”
Try to perform a full reindex of JIRA.
If this is prevented by errors, do this:
- Stop JIRA
- Backup the following directory / sub-directories:
$JIRA_HOME/caches/indexes
- Remove that directory / sub-directories
$JIRA_HOME/caches/indexes (this will be rebuilt when JIRA is re-indexed)
- Start JIRA
- Perform a locked/full re-index of JIRA
What steps can you take before initiating a re-index that will allow you to recover?
Enable index recovery (creates snapshots)
What bad things happen when the index is out of date?
JIRA Issue status is out of sync when viewed through the Issue Navigator. Symptoms:
- Issue status is not updated in the Issue Navigator.
- When transitioning an issue between statuses, that status is updated correctly as seen on the View Issue page, but the status remains unchanged in Issue Navigator results.
Remember, the Issue Navigator (search) results are based on indexes.
When should you use the “Lock JIRA and rebuild index” option?
- When the indices are corrupt, which may be caused by a system or disk failure or
- It is more important to have the re-index completed quickly than to have JIRA continuously available.
What types of configuration changes will give you a message letting you know you should re-index?
After making changes to the following:
- Field Configuration Schemes
- Custom Fields
- Plugins
- Time Tracking
