Independent Samples/ Between Samples T Test Flashcards
What experimental design is used to independent t tests and what type of data
Between subjects design- independent measures. Continuous ( interval or ratio)using means and SD. Want to find if means sig different to each other. T shows the variance explained by iv/unexplained variance
Diff between parametric and non parametric
Parametric are the rules/parameters an experiment has to meet for a test , if fail use non parametric
Independent samples t test assumptions
Data are independent, data are interval or ratio, N of at least 12, Normally distributed (Shapiro wilk want data to be not sig diff ) and have homogeneity of variance
The principles of a one samples t test
Comparing data from experiment to one single number e.g. scored higher than average
Assumption for a one sample t test
Data are independent, data are continuous (interval or ratio), data are normally distributed
How to report results for one sample t test
Mean of ps was x plus or minus y. The data met the assumptions of a one sample t test which revealed that this was sig faster than the x of z (t(d.f)=b, p<0.05)
What is the one samples t test non parametric alternative
One sample Wilcoxon signed rank test
What is homogeneity of variance and how to run the test
Is the variance in condition 1 similar to the variance in condition 2. Tested with levenes test - want no sig diff
What are Q-Q plots / quantile-quantile plots
Ordered data sectioned into quantiles p, homogenous data will fall on the diagnal line- for levels test?
Independent samples t test non parametric alternative
Mann Whitney U test
