alexander stakhanov was a coal miner
on 31 aug 1935, he mined 102 tonnes of coal in less than 6 hours - 14x his quota
this started stakhanovite movement
why was gov keen to promote stakhanovite movement
in hopes industry would grow quicker as they thought stakhanov would inspire many workers
