Q

What is the difference between inclusive fitness and classical fitness?

A

Inclusive fitness is helping family or someone who is genetically related to you to find a mate in order for a possibility of your own genetic material to be passed on as well.
Classical fitness is just finding a mate for yourself based on your own selective pressures

Q

What is the relation between genetic makeup and altruistic acts? What precent makeup is composed between relatives?

A

As genetic makeup increases, so do altruistic acts, and vice versa.

  • Siblings/parents share 0.50 of your genetic makeup
  • Half-siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews make up 0.25 of your genetic makeup
  • Cousins, children of half siblings…etc make up 0.125 of your genetic makeup

Q

What is reciprocal altruism? What helps it occur?

A

Reciprocal altruism is long term cooperation, that if an animal potentially loses something in order to help someone else of their own species gain something, then that animal “owes” you for in the long run and is expected to do the same for you in the future. This act occurs in higher order animals or highly social animals because of their ability to recognize faces of the ones who helped us and who we have helped

Q

What is the relationship between kin-selection theory and reciprocal Altriusm?

A

Kin-selection theory offers an explanation as to why we act more altruistically to someone of our own genetic makeup, and reciprocal theory offers an explanation of why we offer to assist to and request assistance from non-kin.
