What is an inclusive environment
It is in environment which is designed and managed to allow people with a diverse range of needs and abilities to access and use it
What is the main purpose of the Equality Act 2010?
It’s a UK legislation that protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society
What are the three main objectives of the Equality Act?
- Harmonise discrimination law by combining 116+ pieces of legislation
- Protect individuals from unfair treatment and promote equality
- Provide a clear framework for tackling discrimination
List the 9 protected characteristics under the Equality Act
Age, Disability, Gender reassignment, Marriage and civil partnership, Pregnancy and maternity, Race, Religion or belief, Sex, Sexual orientation
What are the key areas covered by the Act?
Employment, Education, Access to goods and services, Housing, Private clubs and associations
What specific requirements does the Act place on organisations?
Organisations must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people and are prohibited from direct/indirect discrimination, harassment, and victimization
